Another coffee shop? No, not at all! Burlap and
Bean is a family owned and operated coffee house. What
is the difference? Well for starters, the ambiance. You walk in
through the front door and the first thing you want to do is flop
onto their over stuffed leather couch and take off your shoes. If
you are a regular, you might even find one of the friendly staff
bringing you your slippers. From your comfortable seat, you will
notice that the walls have been richly painted with the warm colors
of fall; burnt sienna, dark chocolate and a spicy mustard. Sit back,
take a deep breath in, and let the fragrant aroma of freshly roasted
coffee beans (roasted on the premises) waft over you. Can you feel
the stress of your day melting away?
If you happen to stroll in on a Thursday night, you will be
entertained by a showcase of local talent. Thursday night is Open Mic
night from 7-10pm. Sign ups start at 6:30pm and the list fills up FAST. There are always various forms of self expression ranging anywhere from comedy, spoken word, poetry, music and the occasional tap dancer.
Burlap and Bean is transformed from a cozy cafe into an intimate music venue each weekend.
Every Friday and Saturday night, you can enjoy a live acoustic concert from one of the many talented singer song writers in the Tri State area, as well as national touring acts. Get there early, as seats are first come, first serve. Be sure to check the
website calendar often for all the updated show times and listings.
Stop by any day of the week to peruse the art on the wall (all local
artists), bring your laptop and make use of the free WIFI, or just
bring your appetite and get yourself a delicious bowl of soup or
something sweet from our tempting selection of baked goods.
Coffee. Espresso. Cappuccino. Latte. Macchiato. If any of
these words are music to your ears then you will understand the
passion behind the business that Burlap and Bean is running. Burlap
and Bean is obsessively committed to producing the finest and the
freshest cup of java you have ever tasted. Coffee has been the
preferred method of caffeine consumption for over 500 years. After
all, coffee is the second most popular commodity traded (next to
oil). It employs millions of families worldwide. Few products we use
require so much in terms of human effort. Every single coffee cherry
is hand picked from a coffee tree. It takes approx. 2000 cherries to
produce one pound of coffee. A good picker averages approx. 100 to
200 lbs of coffee cherry a day. The owners of Burlap and Bean have
partnered with TransFair to assure their customers that every farmer
was paid a fair wage for his harvest. Burlap and Bean takes pride in
selling Fair Trade coffee to its customers.
When deciding where to buy your coffee, what would you say you value
most?
Variety? Cleanliness? Dependability? Taste? Friendly staff? The
owners, brothers Ben and Brent Endicott ask, “Why choose? At Burlap
and Bean, we guarantee to meet all of your highest standards because
they are ours too!”
The door to this new venture opened wide in November
2006 and the
neighborhood is all abuzz. I am certain you will find yourself drawn
to its warmth on more than one occasion this season. Find a seat at
one of their small dark tables with your steaming hot beverage of
choice and bask in the pleasure of knowing your purchase is
enriching the lives of farming families around the globe one bean at
a time.
We are passionate about coffee, food, music, art,
